Application Methods

Transothane Finish 3.63 can be applied using airless spray, airspray, brush or roller.

• Airless Spray: 120–180 bar nozzle pressure with a 0.38–0.53 mm nozzle.
• Airspray: 3–5 bar pressure with a 1.2–1.5 mm nozzle.
• Brush / Roller: Suitable for application.

The recommended thinner is Transocean PU Thinner 6.04. When thinning is required, the thinner should be added after the two components have been thoroughly mixed.

Mixing and Application

Transothane Finish 3.63 is supplied in two containers as one complete unit. The base component (Part A) should first be thoroughly stirred using a clean mechanical mixer. The complete contents of the curing agent (Part B) should then be added and mixed thoroughly.

The recommended mixing ratio is 6:1 by volume, base to hardener. Only the amount of mixed coating that can be used within the specified pot life should be prepared.

Excessively vigorous mixing should be avoided because it can introduce air into the coating and negatively affect application results.

Film Thickness and Coverage

The recommended dry film thickness for Transothane Finish 3.63 is 50 microns per coat. The specified dry film thickness range is 30–60 microns.

At the recommended film thickness, the theoretical spreading rate is approximately 10.0 m²/L.

Curing Times

Curing time depends on substrate temperature and application conditions. At 23°C, the typical touch-dry time is approximately 1 hour, dry-to-handle time is 4 hours and full cure is approximately 7 days.

The specified pot life at 23°C is approximately 6 hours. Actual drying and curing times can vary depending on film thickness, temperature, ventilation, humidity and the preceding coating system.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from contamination before application. Coated substrates should be prepared in accordance with ISO 8504:2000 and checked for compatibility with the selected coating system.

When recoating aged surfaces, damaged coating areas should be removed back to a firm edge. The surface may then be lightly abraded or sweep-blasted to provide a suitable physical key for adhesion.

Marine Coating Applications

When combined with Transpoxy Barrier, Transothane Finish has low spread of flame properties and is certified to comply with specified marine requirements, including MED-Module B, SOLAS 74, IMO MSC/Circ. 1120, the 2000 HSC Code and IMO FTP Code.

Storage and Safety

Transothane Finish 3.63 should be stored in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area away from sources of heat and ignition. Containers should remain tightly closed and stored in their original packaging until required for use.
